I dove feet first into the blanket of your love: A Poem

I dove feet first into the blanket of your love

But instead of folds of fabric,

I was met with cold water that felt like concrete.

My Achillesā€™ heel broke on impact.

My strength waned

as I sank to the depths;Ā

I started to kick,

reminding Mother Nature that I was still her baby.

I didnā€™t want to sink further,

trying to battle the largest army on Earth,

populated by unknown monsters lurking deep below.

So I struck out wildly

but you countered every blow.

So I succumbed to you.

But as you cradled me below the surface,

I kept one arm reaching for the light,

dragging it behind me,

my very own Hector,

the most noble now hanging limp and lifeless behind me,

and yet it was the only thing that could hurt you too.
