Playlist Prompt #3: Holding Us Both Hostage

This playlist is a bit different from the other ones, because I usually try to order the songs into a chronological story, but this playlist is in no specific order. Itā€™s rather based on a central theme: holding each other hostage in an unhealthy relationship. I was listening to ā€œSkinny Love,ā€ Birdyā€™s version, and I was drawn to the idea that either one or both people in a relationship are desperately manipulative. Not out of maliciousness, but because they are using their partner as a crutch. Leaning too heavily on them and breaking them in the process, damaging them too permanently for future use.Ā

So I went scanning in my song library for the same theme. It was harder than I expected it to be, but I think each song builds off one another and adds a new element to its combined story. The songs are from both the perspective of the manipulator and from the one being manipulating.

Hope it inspires! Stay lit, comrades.
